The Notes feature allows you to store project-specific information directly within a CMC project. Notes can be used to document assumptions, explain why certain simulation settings were chosen, record observations, or save reminders for future analyses.
Because the notes are stored with the project, they remain available whenever the project is reopened, making them especially useful for long-term studies and collaborative research.
IMPORTANT: Availability of the Note Utility can be turned on or off from the Settings Menu.
What information does a note contain?
Each note contains the following information:
- Title
- Author
- Date Created
- Date Modified
- Formatted note text
The note text supports rich-text formatting, allowing you to use different fonts, bold, italics, underlining, colors, and other formatting to improve readability.
Where are notes stored?
Notes are stored separately from the project settings in a companion XML file having the same base filename as the project.
For example:
My Simulation.CMC.xml
My Simulation.Notes.xml
Keeping notes in a separate file allows the project settings and documentation to be managed independently while remaining associated with the same simulation.
How many notes can I have?
There is no practical limit to the number of notes that may be stored for a project. Most projects require only a few notes, while research projects may contain many pages of documentation.
Can notes be edited or deleted?
Yes. Notes may be:
- Added
- Edited
- Deleted
- Reordered using the navigation buttons
Changes are not permanent until the notes are saved.
Why use notes?
Notes provide an excellent place to record information that would otherwise be lost, such as:
- Experimental objectives
- Data sources
- Assumptions
- References
- Interpretation of results
- Future ideas or reminders
Documenting these details within the project makes it much easier to understand and reproduce a simulation months or even years later.
