LPSolve Printing

Hello, and welcome to this LPSolve Knowledge Base video on printing within the program.

Printing in LPSolve is straightforward and becomes available once you’ve achieved a feasible solution. You’ll find the Print menu in the Solution window; it’s not typically available while you’re still working in the formulation window. From the Print menu, you have two options: printing the solution or printing batch sheets.

Let’s start with printing the solution. When you select this option, LPSolve opens a print preview so you can review the output before sending it to a printer or saving it to a file. At the top of the report, you’ll see the farm name, group, and feed name. On the left side of the report, ingredients are listed in descending order based on percent as-fed inclusion. The next columns show kilograms per metric ton on an as-fed basis, followed by kilograms per metric ton on a dry-matter basis. To the right, all ration nutrients are displayed in the order defined in the nutrient library. Minimums and maximums are shown when they apply, along with the formulated values for each nutrient. Typically, the solution report spans multiple pages, and all nutrients are listed, even those with zero values. From the preview screen, you can print directly to a local printer, save to a PDF, or print to a file using your standard Windows options.

The second printing option is the batch sheet. Batch sheets present similar information but are organized specifically for feed mixing. Ingredients are listed in descending order based on dry-matter inclusion. The report includes percent as-fed, kilograms per metric ton as-fed, percent dry matter of each ingredient, percent inclusion on a dry-matter basis, and kilograms per metric ton on a dry-matter basis. This format is especially useful for communicating mix instructions to the feed mill or farm staff.

In addition to printing, LPSolve allows you to export results directly to Excel. Under the File menu, select Save as Excel to create an Excel file containing the formulation results. The file is automatically named using the formulation name along with the date and time it was saved. All values in the Excel file are static—there are no embedded formulas or calculations—making it easy to share, archive, or incorporate into other records.

That covers printing and exporting in LPSolve. Thanks for watching, and be sure to check out the other LPSolve Knowledge Base videos to learn how to get the most out of the program.
