NASCalf Farm and Calf Info

Hello, and welcome to this NASCalf tutorial. In this video, we’ll review the Farm and Calf Info screen and how to modify key inputs in the program.

To begin, go to Farm and Calf and select Farm and Calf Info (or use Ctrl+I). This opens the main input screen, where you can adjust parameters that influence both calf performance and farm-level outcomes. The first section focuses on the calf, including birth body weight, mature body weight, and target average daily gain for both pre-weaning and post-weaning periods. You can also set scour score and timing; for more detail, see the NASCalf scours tutorial.

The next section includes environmental and economic inputs, such as temperature, milk price, breed, and currency label. You’ll also find low-growth thresholds for pre- and post-weaning. These values act as alert indicators, flagging days when growth falls below expected levels—information that is displayed on the Scientific screen.

Finally, you can set the age at which water and starter are offered, which helps determine predicted dry matter intake. Note that in the current version, water age is not actively used in calculations. The “date start” and “code score” fields are included for future development and are not currently utilized.

That’s an overview of the Farm and Calf Info screen. Thanks for watching, and be sure to explore other NASCalf tutorials to get the most out of the program.
