Browsing, Editing, and Deleting Notes

The Notes window provides tools for managing all of the notes associated with a project.

Browsing notes

Navigation buttons allow you to move through the collection one note at a time or jump directly to the first or last note.

Each note displays its:

  • Title
  • Author
  • Date Created
  • Date Modified
  • Formatted text

Editing a note

Any note may be edited simply by changing its contents in the editor.

You may modify:

  • Title
  • Author
  • Formatted text

Whenever a note is saved after editing, the Date Modified field is automatically updated.

Deleting a note

Notes that are no longer needed may be deleted.

Because deleting a note permanently removes it from the project, CMC asks for confirmation before the deletion is performed.

Deleted notes cannot be recovered unless a backup copy of the notes file exists.

Saving changes

After adding, editing, or deleting notes, be sure to save the note collection before closing the Notes window. Saving writes the updated notes to the project’s companion .Notes.xml file so they will be available the next time the project is opened.

Using notes effectively

Many users find it helpful to treat the Notes feature as a digital laboratory notebook. Recording the rationale behind a simulation, documenting data sources, and summarizing results can make projects much easier to interpret and reproduce in the future. Well-maintained notes are especially valuable when projects are shared among colleagues or revisited after long periods of time.
