We recognized that more and more producers are formulating calf diets such as starters and growers, and even liquid feed blends on the farm but without the benefit of tools that formulate least-cost diets. Current methods such as Excel spreadsheets often don’t allow the user to calculate key nutrients such as macro-minerals, nor do they necessarily produce the lowest cost solution.
That’s why we developed LPSolve, a simple least-cost feed formulation program based on a commercially available Simplex algorithm. LPSolve produces least-cost formulations. But more importantly, the supporting materials allows the user to learn about the power of linear programming and how to use this tool in accurate and precise feed formulation.
